X-Meta-Qic | | What is Quality in Care?
Quality in Care (QiC) is a new programme launched in 2011. Its aim is to support the NHS in a practical way, to improve standards of care, by identifying and showcasing existing initiatives which are directly or indirectly improving care, and by disseminating these more widely across the NHS, in order to create positive change at a local level. It is a tripartite programme involving the NHS, charities, and industry, working together for the benefit of patients. Importantly, QiC begins to address major barriers to innovation identified in the review led by Sir Ian Carruthers, âInnovation, Health and Wealth, Accelerating Adoption and Diffusion in the NHSâ, such as the lack of recognition and celebration of innovation and innovators, and the need for more systematic mechanisms of diffusion. QiC is also consistent with Government policy which encourages joint working between the NHS and the pharmaceutical industry
QiC Diabetes was launched successfully in 2011, with the support of NHS Diabetes, Diabetes UK and Sanofi, and is now in its second year. QiC Oncology was launched in March at the national meeting of the cancer networks. Last autumn, a QiC Oncology Advisory Board was created, with key individuals from the National Cancer Action Team, cancer charities and industry.
2013 and beyond
PMGroup are now seeking further partners to extend the reach and impact of QiC Oncology. In addition we are at an Advisory Board stage to explore the potential for further QiC programmes in areas such as Respiratory, Musculoskeletal, Dementia, Immunology and Cardiology/Atrial Fibrillation, both in the UK and Internationally.
Entry information, case studies and resources from the QiC programme can be found at www.qualityincare.org, or contact Louise Bellamy on 01372 414253 or at [email protected] for more information.
|
